Many of you have already heard about Garry’s mode if you are an old Steam user, Garry’s mod is an extremely popular sandbox game allowing players to import any character and model to create maps and explore the game freely. With such freedom, players were allowed to develop and create different kinds of content including Nintendo for years, but now
Nintendo decided to take down these mod content from Steam, see what happens, and what its impact will be.
Nintendo forced Garry's Mod to Remove 20 Years Worth of its Content
According to the post shared on the news section on Steam, Nintendo ordered the popular sandbox game Garry’s Mod to remove all Nintendo-related content dating back the last 20 years.
This comes after Nintendo began sending out takedown requests for company-related content. They also requested Garry’s Mod players and modders to assist them by deleting all Nintendo-related uploads from Garry’s Mod Workshop.
In an official statement, Face Punch Studio Publisher of Garry’s mod stated that they were very well aware of this kind of action saying that Nintendo has the right to protect their content. Face Punch Studios has to respect and remove everything related to Nintendo-said in a statement.
Facepunch said that the request was “fair enough” given that the content belongs to Nintendo, but that the procedure would be time-consuming because “we have 20 years of uploads to go through.”
“If you want to help us by deleting your Nintendo-related uploads and never uploading them again, that would help us a lot,” Facepunch wrote.
This is not the first time that Nintendo has taken action for their content protection previously they issued legal lawsuits against to Pal World Pokemon Modes, the Switch emulator, and the Nintendo 64 portal revival because they were using the official Nintendo 64SDK.
But the question arises if Nintendo was that protective towards its content then why does it take so much time to do this 20 years is a long duration and sufficient enough to fill the gaming scenario with these kinds of mods.
The whole point of Garry’s Mod is that you can mod it. You’re intended to put several bizarre characters, items, and ideas into its sandbox and create goofy scenarios. That is what has made it so popular for streaming and video content.
